The Thornbury Eisteddfod has been held in March every year since 1989 other than the enforced breaks in 2020 and 2021 caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Eisteddfod is open to all young people aged from 4 to 18 and the disciplines cover Speech and Drama, Vocals including Choirs, and Instrumentals.
Classes are held in the Whitsun Hall, part of the Hatch community, and in St Mary’s Church.
The aim of the Eisteddfod is to make taking part enjoyable and to be a celebration of the great range of talent in the local area.
We are affiliated to the Federation of Festivals and they provide us with professional adjudicators for each day. A selection of the performers are asked to take part in a concert as a finale to the Eisteddfod.
All ages and abilities are welcome to take part and all will hopefully find it a positive and encouraging experience as many young people have in the past 30 years.
The 2025 Programme is as follows:
Sunday 16th March - Vocals in the morning, Speech and drama in the afternoon. Frith Trezevant will be the adjudicator.
Thursday 20th March will be schools morning. Anne Marshall will adjudicate.
Sunday 23rd March will be Instrumentals day with Rachel Gregory adjudicating.
The concert will be in the evening of Thursday 27th March and will be held in St Mary's Church, Thornbury.
